RFBSTYLE says: a clear “no” to the hat.
The outfit? Yes.
The hat? Never again!

When Rihanna closes the Met Gala red carpet, the world watches. This year was no exception. Dressed in a custom Marc Jacobs ensemble, Rihanna didn’t just embrace the event’s theme — “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” — she elevated it with her signature blend of drama, tailoring, and personal narrative. And yes, she made headlines again by debuting her third pregnancy.

Her look? A pin-striped story of contrasts:
— A black bonded barathea wool Spencer jacket
— A grey morning-stripe wool bustier bodysuit
— A black pinstripe V-tailored skirt with tied-jacket bustle
— A polka dot satin cravat with pique collar
— Custom ankle-chain spectator pumps
— And the final touch — a Marc Jacobs x Stephen Jones hat
It was powerful. It was daring. It was Rihanna.
But now, the RFBSTYLE take.
Let’s be clear: Rihanna never misses an opportunity to surprise, and her interpretation of the theme was clever, layered, and thoughtful. We respect the creativity. The look as a whole — tailoring reimagined through a woman’s lens, mixed with baroque accessories and an unapologetic silhouette — worked.
However... we can’t pretend we loved everything.
The hat. That hat.
Floating somewhere between a UFO, a half-deflated soufflé, and the Sorting Hat from Harry Potter after someone sat on it or even a giant dumpling.— the headpiece simply didn’t land. It disrupted the otherwise razor-sharp tailoring and added unnecessary visual confusion. We get the attempt at surrealism, but it felt more “space invader”. It disrupted the balance of the entire look and distracted from the message.
Our verdict?
Rihanna’s power is undebatable. The message of her look was compelling.
But for this one detail — the flying dumpling hat — we have to say: absolutely not.
Even icons are allowed one off note. And Rihanna? She’ll reinvent it all next year — of that we’re sure.
