At last, Olivier Rousteing presented his BALMAIN FW24 womenswear collection in homage to his beloved hometown, Bordeaux. An ensemble of prints, embroideries, and 3D creations strode down the runway painting a picture of what could only be called bucolic chic: trench coats and vichy prints recall happy memories of the Creative Director’s childhood, between rainy days and sunny picnics, while bunches of grapes and statuesque silhouettes pay tribute to the classical and elegant references associated with the famed region.

“My mom came here today and she loved the looks,” he reported backstage pre-show. “And she reminded me of memories from being a kid. She was always wearing a trench—you know, really French—and we would go on a picnic and throw a gingham blanket on the grass.” If last month’s menswear show sprang from Rousteing’s African heritage, this womenswear sequel spoke to his identity as a Bordelais.
